Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan on Thursday claimed victory in Pakistan general elections 2018 and as soon as he made the announcement, it sent the micro-blogging site Twitter into a meltdown. Among the many of his admirers, the most avid ones were his former cricketing colleagues. From Wasim Akram to Shahid Afridi, everybody rushed in to wish good fortunes to the legendary Pakistani cricketer.

Iconic fast bowler and former Pakistan cricket team coach Waqar Younis took to his official Twitter handle to heap praise on Imran Khan. After PTI leader’s speech claiming victory, Younis wrote: “A special speech from a Great Leader..Very simple, honest and practical..Feeling so proud to be a student of such a Mentor.. Congratulations Skipper Imran Khan.”

Renowned cricket commentator and Imran Khan’s former colleague Ramiz Raja too jumped in the bandwagon and gave a special message to his leader. He said, “Who could be a bigger and better example of a leader than Imran Khan, who as a super star had the world at his feet and yet elbow greased for 22 years to work for his objective and vision..he’s special and we are proud to have him as our Prime Minister..”

Retired explosive batsman Shahid Afridi was hopeful for Imran Khan’s future after PTI’s victory in Pakistan elections. Boom-boom Afridi commented: “Congrat PTI and Imran Khan on a truly historic victory! The 22-year-old struggle has finally paid off and deservedly. Pakistanis have a lot of expectations from u I really hope u lead from the front! I request all opposing parties and media to accept the result and help rebuild Pakistan.”

Another Pakistani cricketer Umar Gul wished Imran Khan for securing public mandate. “Glad the elections went well and the people have given a verdict for change. Imran Khan has been a force since he won us the World Cup and his struggle of so many years is shining today. We pray he fulfils his promises and makes Pakistan prosper inshaAllah,” Gul tweeted.

Shoaib Akhtar, who was fondly called Rawalpindi Express, did not stay behind as well from wishing his new Prime Minister. Shoib Akhtar tweeted, “This is the result of 22 years of conviction , relentless efforts , determination and not giving up!
Congratulations Imran Khan You have done it!!!”

Earlier before the electoral process began, legendary Pakistani bowler and former captain of the team Wasim Akram appealed to the Pakistani public to vote for Imran Khan. Akram wrote on Twitter: “A cricketer who became a politician? Or a man who was born to serve this nation, protect our people and lead us in to our own. And one day they will say, that this same man was once a phenomenal cricketer. The time is now for change, Our country Our history! #VoteForKaptaan”

The vote counting is still underway in Pakistan and the current trends have put PTI as the frontrunner with remarkable seat count of 120 so far. Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PMLN) are trailing at second with 61 seats while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is at third with 40 seats. It is being reported that it is just a matter of time when Imran Khan will be the elected the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.
