At least 15 people were injured after a canopy collapsed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Midnapore rally in West Bengal. The injured were rushed to the Midnapore medical college and hospital where Modi visited them soon after he finished his speech.

While the PM was speaking, he made several remarks to people, who had climbed on top of trees to listen to him, to climb down but soon after a portion of the makeshift tent collapsed injuring people.

Meanwhile West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has assured all help from the state government. “We pray for the speedy recovery of those injured at Midnapore rally,” CM was quoted by ANI as saying.

 

“The prime minister saw the tent collapsing while he was in the middle of his speech. He immediately instructed SPG personnel standing next to him to look after the people and attend to the injured,” Indian express was quoted official sources as saying.

In the speech, PM talked about how the Union government’s recent decision to increase the Maximum Support Price (MSP) to 150 percent of production for farmers for their benefit.

“Previous governments have discussed the issue of MSP for a long time. But nothing was done. BJP government listened to the farmers and decided to increase MSP,” Modi was quoted by ANI as saying.

PM asserted that BJP government is committed to make lives easy for the people of Bengal and said India is going through a major developmental change and everybody is giving 100 percent towards bringing development.

“Our government worked for farmers, from quality seeds to market, important to have a warehouse to save the produce,” Modi was quoted by ANI as saying.
