The situation in South Kashmir’s district Shopian was tense on Saturday after a civilian was allegedly killed by the security forces, who later identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed, a resident of the district. It comes hours after 5 terrorists were gunned down by the security forces in other parts of the district. Talking about the matter, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Shesh Paul Vaid on Saturday morning tweeted, “4 more bodies of terrorists visible at an encounter site kiloora Shopian taking the total to 5 terrorists killed. Good Job boys, good for peace.”
Earlier in the day, ANI reported that stone pelters attempted to disrupt operations of security forces in Kilora village where 5 terrorists were gunned down. The ANI report said that at least 20 stone pelters were injured in the incident. Separatist leader and chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq took to Twitter to condemn the killing of a civilian in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
He tweeted, “Strongly condemn the killing of civilian Imtiaz Ahmed by forces in Shopian and injuring of dozens. Deeply saddened by the Martyrdom of five young armed boys killed by Indian forces. Our young generation getting consumed by conflict while no effort by world community get it resolved.”
In the recent days, many organisations in the various parts of the Kashmir have staged protests against authorities in support of Article 35-A that grant special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
