Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav’s protest on Saturday at Jantar Mantar turned into a show of opposition unity. Various opposition leaders like Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Yadav and D Raja were present at the demonstration called by former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister against Nitish Kumar’s government over Muzaffarpur home shelter rape case. With less than one year left for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, opposition parties are trying to send a clear message to ruling party BJP, as asserted by Congress president while delivering the speech at the Jantar Mantar protest.

Launching a scathing attack on Nitish Kumar, Congress president said if Bihar CM is really ashamed of the incident then he should take immediate action against the accused. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav while speaking at the protest said girls were raped right under the nose of Bihar government. Opposition parties have demanded Nitish Kumar’s resignation, saying that Bihar government is protecting main accused in the matter.

Moments before heading to Jantar Mantar, Tejashwi Yadav, as per news agency ANI reports, talked about future of grand alliance and said Rahul Gandhi has an important role to play as Congress is the biggest opposition party. He further urged all senior opposition leaders to hold deliberations on the matter.

It was reported days ago that over 30 girls were raped at home shelter in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. The incident came to light after the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, in its audit report, said that girls living at the shelter home had complained of sexual assault.

Meanwhile, breaking his silence on the matter, Nitish Kumar on Friday said he is ashamed of the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case and no leniency will be shown against the accused as CBI is investigating the case under the monitoring of the High Court.
