Marking a historic day for generations to come the final draft of Assam’s NRC has been published today. The fate lakhs of people residing in Assam is at stake as according to the final list, nearly 40 lakh religious and linguistic minorities name is not present on the final draft of NRC while over 2.89 crore people have been reported to be valid citizens of the country out of the total 3.29 crores.

Due to the tension in the state in midst of the NRC results, the government of Assam has ordered prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC in 14 districts of the state and the announcement of the NRC draft was also made under tight security. Tight security has been arranged at 2500 NRC Seva Kendras to keep a check on law and order situation.

Moreover, reports say that 1.9 crore people were considered as valid citizens after the release of the first NRC draft in December 31st last year. According to latest updates, the people whose name is not on the draft can reapply for the NRC has been updated to check large scale illegal immigrants in the country through Assam-Bangladesh border.

Meanwhile, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said CM said that no one in the state should panic if their name is not listed on it. He had also asked the people of Assam not to make any such statement that would harm the harmony of the state or lead to any communal clash through his Twitter account on the social media platform.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also said that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft for Assam is completely “impartial” and as the people would get another chance to prove their Indian citizenship, those whose names are not featured on the list should not panic.
